11/9 Update

Gator Grove

Welcome back to Gator Grove once again! Pictured above is our team sign which was created by team member Elizabeth. This week we met up on Friday and focused primarily on weeding each row of crops. The effects of the fertilizer, which Esahm applied last week, on our crops was clearly present this week. In the picture above you can see our sunflowers, sugar snap peas, dragon's tongue bush beans, and provider bush beans.

Here's a better look at the sunflowers, sugar snap peas, and dragon's tongue bush beans. All three crops appear to be growing at a much more rapid rate than when no fertilizer was being applied.

In this picture you are seeing provider bush beans and chioggia guardsmark beets. The dragon's tongue bush beans leaves provide a much denser foliage than the provider bush beans which provide sparser coverage. Other incubator farm groups have reported having issues with bean leafrollers but none have appeared on our beans so far. We will continue to monitor for this pest. Our beets have continued to grow well.

In the picture above you can see more chioggia guardsmark beets, green magic broccoli, red onions, sweet onions, and more green magic broccoli. All of these crops appear to be growing well.

In the picture to the left is our final manifold. You can see sunflowers, lettuce, a row that used to be filled with spinach, hot peppers, and more sunflowers. None of our spinach appeared to be growing well in the field so we were forced to remove the crop from our plot. We did however replace the row of spinach with strawberry transplants, which are pictured in the image to the right, that were provided by the T.A.

Pictured above is our garden raised bed which contains basil, cilantro, and what used to be carrot crops. Our basil and cilantro are continuing to grow very well. We have tried to plant carrots in our raised bed twice now but have yielded no crops both times. The rows that were designated for carrots have instead been replace with strawberry transplants.

Overall we are satisfied with the progress of the crops in the field. Until next week!
