11/2 UPDATE

Happy Halloween from Gator Grove!

This week class met up on Monday and our team got to finishing transplants to our fourth and final row of crops! We've been applying fertilizer, and from the picture here you can see that our Bush beans in the first row have grown well, but the leaves are not all as green as they should be, meaning we may need to adjust our fertilizer use. Our second row is also making great strides. You can tell from this angle that each row was planted a few weeks apart. In the final row you can see Mingxi and Teresa transferring the last seedlings into the ground.

Here I am (Esahm) applying fertilizer in the soil near some of our recent transfers. Overall I placed about 1lb of solid fertilizer to our entire plot, adjusting for the concentrations required by different crops. I plan to make another application in a few weeks.

In this picture you can see our fourth row. The Sunflowers on the outside were transplanted on the 8th, and so are more mature than our other transplants. Following them are hot peppers, spinach, and three rows of lettuce.

Finally, here you can see our rather unexciting raised bed, which until recently was barren. However, finally this week we noticed good growth in our basil and cilantro. We are hoping things will speed up for the carrots we planted here as well.

Overall we are very happy to be done planting our rows as now we can focus on maximizing the growth of our plants.

Until next week!
