Gator Grove Goals
  • By October 20th we will have laid down hay throughout the plot to increase soil moisture retention, prevent erosion, and to suppress weeds from growing.
  • By October 25th we will finish direct seeding plants to ensure they will reach maturity by harvest time.
  • By November 1st we will have all seedlings transplanted into our field plot to ensure they have time to grow and reach maximum yield by harvest time.
  • By November 12th, we will  contact the UF Field and Fork Food pantry and offer our crops for them to distribute to the people within the University's community in need of food assistance.
  • By December 5th we will harvest our crops with at least 90% crop growth success.

We are working very hard and cannot wait to share the progress of our farm with you all! These are some of our recently planted Dragon's Tongue bush beans.

    Current Progress

We began growing transplants inside of a greenhouse due to the high summer heat in late September. The photo on the left is Adriana lettuce, and bush beans on the right. We suffered a minor setback when the tray of bush beans was miss placed, but we ended up directly seeding the bush beans. As for the lettuces, we are waiting for them to get slightly larger before we plant them.

Below is a photograph of the plants that have been planted in the field plot so far, but more plants are to come! Currently we have sunflowers, sugar snap peas, two types of bush beans, two types of beets, broccoli, and two types of onions.

In our raised bed we are growing carrots, cilantro, and basil.
