10/26 Update

Gator Grove

Hello, welcome back to Gator Grove! This week we have been working on our use of fertilizer for our crops. We are using an organic liquid fertilizer that is applied twice a week. We hope to see this fertilizer help our plants develop faster, and become larger. We also applied a solid fertilizer to our bush beans.

As we are nearing the end of October, we are working very hard on getting the last of our cool season vegetable transplants in the ground. In this tray we have beets and sunflowers that we started in seeding trays within the greenhouse in early September. They are now ready to be transplanted out into the field plot.

Everyone is hard at work planting the final transplants. On the left, Toby and Teresa worked on planting the last of the beet transplants. On the right, Mingxi is planting some of the Adriana lettuce. Below, Esahm is transplanting hot peppers next to a row of sunflowers.

We took a short break as Elizabeth and Mingxi tried some of the arugula greens that were grown by our neighbors on the farm next to us! While it was tasty, the arugula was still quite bitter, this taste will become more mild as the plant matures. We cannot wait to share our vegetables with others when they are ready!

Check back in with us next week to see our progress!
